With the increasing trend of wireless headphones in the market today, many audio tech companies resort to many product development strategies. If a brand that is well-established decides to make a return by introducing a new product, then most of them decide to make some small, irrelevant tweaks but usually maintain the excellent features that their previous models have made attention from many before. This is what the popular brand, Beats, has performed in developing the new Powerbeats 3 Wireless Earphones.
For the company, this is not just an ordinary introduction of a common wireless headphone but is considered as the latest encore of their superbly popular in-ear Bluetooth sports headphone.
Basing from its physicality, it is easy to tell that the Powerbeats design has been maintained with the new Powerbeats3 Wireless Earphones that it looks similar to the previous Powerbeats2 Wireless Earphones. Aside from its look, what remained to stay the same is its price that lists at $200. The Powerbeats3 is available in various color options: white, shock yellow, siren red, flash blue, and black. In addition, the new wireless sports headphone is also sweat resistant and rainproof, just like the previous models.
Design and Features
To identify the tweaks made to the new in-ear Bluetooth headphone, you have to look closely into it. Some of the design changes made with the Powerbeats3 are its earbud post where it has been lengthened a little bit and its angle where it has slightly been altered to improve the fit and tight seal of the wireless sports headphone while in use.
The package comes with four eartips to provide better fit and tighter seal. We have tried the different eartips including the foam comply tip which we really do prefer because it provides comfortable fit in our ears while giving a nice sound quality.
Aside from the included eartips, the Powerbeats3 wireless earphones also comes with a new protective case, a Remote Talk inline remote (improved and given a new design) which looks slimmer while its buttons are more responsive for functions like skipping tracks forward and backward, adjust volume level, and answering/ending calls.
If there are small tweaks with the wireless sports headphone, there is also an absolutely big change with it. The Powerbeats3 is now integrated with the new custom Bluetooth chip – called W1 by Apple (because Apple owns Beats, yeah). The W1 custom Bluetooth chip is also found on other two new Beats wireless headphones and the new Apple AirPods which will be released really soon. If you think that it will not work with Android devices like Samsung S7 Edge, then that’s entirely false because it can also work perfectly with these devices however the wireless sports headphone will work easier with Apple devices.
For the battery life, the Powerbeats3 wireless earphones rate at up to 12 hours of continuous music playback at moderate volume levels. This battery live is an improvement from the Powerbeats2 since the the new in-ear Bluetooth headphone stays longer at about 4 hours. There is also Beat’s “Fast Fuel” feature where the Powerbeats3 can be to give you 1 hour of music playback via a 5-minute fast charge. The wireless sports headphone can charge via micro-USB (and yes, not via Lightning).
We have tested the wireless sports headphone in various aspects, including its connectivity and sound performance (since both goes together in providing total performance results).
In terms of its connectivity, the Powerbeats3 has an impressive wireless connection without any hiccups and disruptions. Since it is a Class 1 Bluetooth device, the in-ear Bluetooth headphone has provided a better and more extended range at about 33 feet (or 10 meters).
With its sound performance, we really like how the Powerbeats3 wireless earphone has delivered. Considering it is a Bluetooth-supported headphone, we found the sound performance to be really satisfying. The sound was indeed pretty impressive with it having very good detail and clarity, strong bass, as well as a pretty open sound, all isolated with a great seal made possible by the earbuds. For us, the Powerbeats3 is one of the best sounding in-ear Bluetooth headphones available in the market today.
Overall, we are very happy with the Powerbeats3 Wireless Earphone. It may have some few tweaks and changes made but these features surely contributed to a better performing wireless sports headphone that an audiophile – sports enthusiast might have. For any other wireless sports headphone available, like the Jaybird Freedom, the Jaybird X3, the JBL Reflect Aware, or the Jabra Sports Pulse Special Edition, the Powerbeats3 Wireless Earphones is surely one excellent option for you.
