Eversince the introduction of smartphones, portable music such as the well-known iPod, and music streaming from online music services like Spotify and Pandora, many audio companies have emerged and introduced countless numbers of portable speakers, one of which are dock speakers.Dock speakers are those audio devices that serve as a dock or base for music players or audio sources. Aside from serving as a dock for music players, dock speakers also charge them, which is essentially made possible by an external power source. Now if you are looking for a dock speaker for your new device, such as your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, or wanting to add functionality with your iPod Touch’s music streaming, then this is what we could recommend for you.

Although there are many dock speakers available in the market, there is one company that surely offers a quality product. That product comes from Bose. Introducing the Bose SoundTouch XT Speaker.

Bose SoundDock XT Review

The Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is an iPhone/iPod dedicated dock speaker that lets you play your music and enjoy it all day long. Even though it is a dedicated dock speaker for Apple devices, it does not mean that it can only work with these ones so don’t leave this page just yet. The Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is loaded with fun features that can play rich, clear audio. It also has a compact and unconventional design that makes it really eye-catching. This Bose speaker is surely a worthy contender when it comes to a line of dock speakers.

Bose SoundDock XT Speaker – Performance

For its performance, the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker delivers well. For its compact size, this Bose dock speaker can easily fill a medium-sized room because of its impressively detailed and loud sound. We played Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and we absolutely enjoyed listening to it. It is not just only because of the song but also because of the sound perfection the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker delivered.

Even at higher volume level, distortions were minimally observed. The lows, mids, and highs were excellently delivered by this Bose dock speaker. There were no problems with these ones and were actually helpful in giving life to the tracks we played.

The bass coming from the Bose SoundDock Speaker was also loud and thumping. Thanks to its diaphragm found at its back where the bass were coming from. The bass was powerful and strong considering a compact size this dock speaker has.

For the power, you need to plug this one from a power source. The Bose SoundDock XT Speaker comes with a power cable which ensures that this dock speaker is powered up and works just fine. The only thing in question here will be its portability which means that this dock speaker does not have a power reserve coming from a rechargeable battery. Sorry guys, no battery for the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker.

Bose SoundDock XT Speaker – Design

When it comes to Bose, their definition of design would only mean “minimalism” and “sophistication”. But the design for the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is “quite” different. We would say that this dock speaker has got some unconventional and eye-catching look and feel.

Overall, the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is made with 100% plastic which makes it a bit further than Bose’s aluminum made portable speakers. This Bose dock speaker is available in 2 two-tone color options, White/Dark Gray and White/Yellow. It measures at about 5.19 x 11.81 x 3.37 inches and weighs at 2.6 pounds only.

At the front part of this dock speaker are where the dock with an 8-pin Lightning connector, touch-sensitive volume controls, and the speaker grille (which forms whole of the front part) are found. What is great with the speaker-grille of the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is its simple yet cool looking new design. The front has been placed with numerous holes that does not only serve as opening for the speaker drivers but also exudes a look similar to a visualizer. So placing your iPhone 6S on the dock looks like it is having some type of wavy static that comes out from it. As we said, this dock speaker remains plain and simple yet it still has a cool look which makes it really great. While at the back is where the ports for the power cable, aux input, and service are found.

For us, the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker has a fresh design that is worthy to be placed in our homes. It has a cool minimalistic design that is just right.

Bose SoundDock XT Speaker – Connectivity

The Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is an Apple device dedicated dock speaker because of its 8-pin Lightning connector. So this obviously makes it work with an iPhone or iPod. But if you are using a device other than from Apple, like an Android device, you can still make use of the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker via a 3.5mm auxillary input which can be connected directly at the back port.

We would also like to emphasize that the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker does not connect via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi so you only need to connect it mainly through its dock with the 8-pin Lightning connector.

Summary

PROS CONS
Impressive sound and bass performance No built-in rechargeable battery
Compact, simple yet cool looking design Mainly works with an Apple device, non-Apple device need to alternatively use an auxillary input to make use of it
The Bose SoundDock XT Speaker is an amazing dock speaker that has impressive sound quality as well as loud-thumping bass. Aside from that, this one has cool design that is really quite unconventional when it comes to very sophisticated ones offered by Bose (which is a very good thing especially for people who loves devices with funky designs). So if you want a dock speaker for your new iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, or simply for your iPod, then the Bose SoundDock XT Speaker can be the right one for you.
