We have previously reviewed several micro Bluetooth speakers, including JBL’s products — the JBL Clip (the first carabiner-style micro Bluetooth speakers of JBL especially made for adventurers) as well as the JBL Clip+ (the improved and upgraded version of the Clip with splashproof feature). We were undeniably impressed with how these two mini speakers have performed and delivered decent sound quality added with other amazing features. Now, JBL has once again brings the Clip series to the market with their new JBL Clip 2.
That’s right, the Clip 2. So what’s the difference with this one and its predecessors?
As a start, the JBL Clip 2 is now “fully waterproof”, not splashproof, which means that you can now submerge it without worrying enough. This portable speaker is also designed with a real metal carabiner unlike the previous versions of the Clip and Clip+ that are both made of plastic. It also has a cooler design that looks really rugged, yet trendy and modern. Aside from that, the Clip 2 has an improved battery, giving better performance and longer life of 8 hours (compared to 5 hours of the previous versions).
Similar to the Clip and Clip+, the Clip 2 still has the integrated audio cable as support or connectivity for audio devices that doesn’t have Bluetooth and it still also has the built-in speakerphone that works really well.
The JBL Clip 2 is now waterproof. Initially, this mini speaker can float on water but take note that after a while (like 10 seconds), it will eventually sink. This portable speaker can be submerged in four (4) feet of water for about 30 minutes.
In terms of its sound quality, the JBL Clip 2 maintained the decent performance of its predecessors. No improvements may have occurred, but this portable speaker still sounds absolutely impressive considering its micro/small size. The sound is really clear, crisp, and detailed with no distortions produced even in high volume levels. If you’re asking whether this one has a bass response, for a slight quality, the Clip 2 has some (don’t expect too much about the bass response though).
The Clip 2 mini speakers support JBL’s dedicated app, the Connect app, which allows pairing of multiple JBL speakers at once to produce a louder, powerful sound. With this app, you can connect 2 of your JBL Clip 2’s and enjoy your pool party with your friends.
