Another second generation of portable wireless speaker has come to the market. This means that another improved version of the original has been made to suit our hunger for better devices, especially our hunger on better sound quality and design for portable wireless speakers. What’s better on the great news is that the second generation of portable wireless speaker comes from JBL!

JBL, the company responsible for numerous great portable wireless speakers such as the JBL Clip, JBL Charge, JBL Pulse, and more, has once again produced another JBL speaker with exceptional improvements on one of their line of JBL wireless speakers. This is the JBL Flip 2.

The JBL Flip 2 may look similarly with its first version, but as a second generation portable wireless speaker, it surely has some key improvements. Some improvements include those on its sound quality, design specifications, charging capability, and connectivity features as well.

The JBL Flip 2 is an amazing portable wireless speaker that can be used and brought anytime and anywhere. By the way, if you still don’t know, this JBL speaker is named Flip because of its ability to be used at either position, vertically or horizontally. That’s one thing the JBL Flip 2 stands out, it has great functionality.

If improvements have been made to this JBL wireless speaker, what should its performance, design, and connectivity be like? Here’s our review of the JBL Flip 2.

JBL Flip 2 Portable Wireless Speaker – Performance

One improvement on the JBL Flip 2 is in its performance. If the JBL Flip has been one of the great performing Bluetooth speakers around, then the JBL Flip 2 surely performs better.

The JBL Flip 2 delivers clearer, cleaner, and smoother sound for its kind. It can also play at louder volumes without having any problems that commonly comes with it such as distortions. So no, the JBL Flip 2 doesn’t get any distortions in its sound especially if played in higher volume levels. But to avoid any problems with its speaker, you should take note of the common reminders on how to handle these kinds of Bluetooth speakers: don’t abuse it by increasing its volumes all the time, and better use it at 70-80 percent of volume only. The bass is great as well! We tried it with The Weeknd’s The Hills and we really enjoyed it because of its great sound and bass.

Another change on its performance end is the improved speakerphone sound quality. JBL has this thing called SoundClear that features echo and noise cancellation technology. With this, there is no need to worry about misunderstanding while speaking with someone on the other line during your calls.

When it comes to power, the JBL Flip 2 has a bit downside. If you are the one who loves to use your portable wireless speakers overnight, then you may somewhat disagree with its battery life. The JBL Flip 2 has a rechargeable battery that performs for 4 to 5 hours only. Unlike its original version that uses a proprietary AC adapter, the Flip 2 wireless speaker now uses a micro-USB to charge it. Now you can use any standard micro-USB cord to power up its battery.

JBL Flip 2 Portable Wireless Speaker – Design

The JBL Flip 2 portable wireless speaker looks similar with the previous version. There are some changes though when it comes to design. It is now a heavier portable speaker, compared from the first version, at 381 grams. Although know that it’s still lightweight when you need to carry it around all day.

As we mentioned, the Flip 2 can be positioned vertically or horizontally. Using it is a bit much fun especially with how it looks and how its build functions. Comparing again from the original JBL Flip, the JBL Flip 2 is designed with a harder rubber finish that is very easy to touch, handle, and grip (no more slips and drops!).

The JBL Flip 2 still has those physical buttons such as power buttons, call answer/end, and volume changer. Another noteworthy to you guys is that the JBL Flip 2 doesn’t have any play/pause and skip forward/back buttons, especially if you prefer to use these kinds of buttons in a portable Bluetooth speaker.

JBL Flip 2 Portable Wireless Speaker – Connectivity

In terms of connection capability, the JBL Flip 2 is compatible with any devices, such as Android or iOS devices, that have Bluetooth or NFC on it.

Yes you’ve read that right, in addition to Bluetooth connection, JBL has added NFC technology to allow easier pairing with your devices. Now all you need to do is turn on all connections and done. That’s how easy it is to connect the JBL Flip 2 with numerous devices.

As tested, no problems occurred while connecting our Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with the JBL Flip 2. It’s so flawless, smooth, and fast!
