JBL is very well-known when it comes to their portable wireless speakers, such as the JBL Charge 2+, JBL Clip, JBL Micro II, JBL Xtreme, and a whole lot more. Their line of portable wireless speakers has been a talk of the town, specifically the audio enthusiasts. Including us, we love how this company has been offering great portable speakers with excellent sound quality, compact and sleek design, connectivity, and many more.

That is why when we have known that JBL has once again introduced an audio device, we never had made a long decision to not have one and make a review. This JBL speaker we got is something that is quite unique in its own way. Somehow it made us think twice whether this one is really a portable wireless speaker or not, due to the fact that it has two parts, a detachable wireless speaker and a dock that surrounds it.

Introducing the JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker. The JBL Voyager is a portable speaker that has a unique design and functionality. It has a disc-shaped detachable speaker that works via Bluetooth and a larger dock speaker that works with the other part to produce a much bigger and louder sound. It is indeed a portable wireless speaker that catches someone’s attention. JBL has really given a lot of attention to their creativity in product design with the JBL Voyager.

JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker – Performance

Since the JBL Voyager has two parts, a detachable portable Bluetooth speaker and a larger dock speaker, we will be identifying both of the parts’ performances when it comes to sound quality.

For the JBL Voyager’s detachable portable Bluetooth speaker, we would say that this one has a pretty decent sound quality. When we used this part to stream the track “Lean On” by Major Lazer x DJ Snake featuring MO, we enjoyed how it produces a clear, crisp sound. For its size, this part of the JBL Voyager delivers a detailed and a bit loud sound. Although, a small bass output can only be observed from it.

However, if you will plug or connect the detachable portable Bluetooth speaker to its larger dock speaker (which you should take note that the dock speaker only works if you actually connect the detachable portable Bluetooth speaker), better sound quality and bass output can be observed. This dock speaker, the larger part of the JBL Voyager, is built with dual 45mm drivers and 77mm subwoofer so better and louder sound quality as well as stronger bass is expected from it. So if you are not satisfied with how the JBL Voyager’s detachable Portable Bluetooth Speaker performs for you, then you better make use of the whole component to take advantage of a much outstanding sound quality and bass output.

When it comes to its power, the detachable portable Bluetooth speaker can independently work for up to five hours on a single charge. The dock speaker can only work (with the portable Bluetooth speaker attached to it) if you plug it into a power outlet.

JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker – Design

If you will see, by having the JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker, it is like getting two different products in a single package.

For its design, the JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker resembles a traditional “gong”. But this portable wireless speaker still has some uniqueness, modernism, and sleekness attached to it. This JBL speaker looked really awesome and eye-catching in our home. The JBL Voyager doesn’t only end on looking beautiful and unique. Its design is actually based on its functionality as a portable Bluetooth speaker and a dock speaker. Conversely, if you decide to bring both of the parts or components together in other places, then portability will become a problem.

The detachable portable Bluetooth speaker forms like a saucer and weighs for just about 420 grams. On its frontage, the JBL logo, speaker grille, and buttons or functions (such as the power button, volume buttons, Bluetooth pairing button, and Phone button) are found. Its side is where the input for the micro-USB (for individual charging) is located. While at its back is where a port is placed to enable it to connect with its larger part, the dock speaker. Meanwhile, the dock speaker is designed at a larger size with a frontage that has a connector for its detachable portable Bluetooth speaker in addition to a large speaker grille that covers its dual 45mm drivers. Its back part is designed with a transparent or clear plastic that covers its 77mm subwoofer. At its back part is where the ports for the charging cable, USB, and Aux input are built.

In addition, the JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker doesn’t look cheap at all. It has an aesthetic that looks elegant and pleasing to someone’s eyes. Something you would want to consider adding in your home’s display.

JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker – Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the JBL Voyager plays music via Bluetooth connection. Just like other JBL speakers out there, wirelessly connecting its portable wireless speaker with other devices using the Bluetooth connection is not a problem and a hassle. Just turn on your device’s Bluetooth, press the JBL Voyager’s Bluetooth pairing button, pair and connect, then you’re a go.

Another feature we would like to add that the JBL Voyager Portable Bluetooth Speaker has is a speakerphone capability. The JBL Voyager comes with a built-in microphone that enables wireless or hands-free calls. This JBL speaker also features SoundClear noise and echo cancellation technology so the sound quality for both lines is still pretty decent.
