Through a variety of AirPlay speakers available in the market, we are really happy and pleased to review one. It may not have been talked about a lot but this one surely brings something to the table.
Introducing, the Philips Fidelio SoundRing.
The Philips Fidelio SoundRing is one speaker that belongs to the widening line of AirPlay speakers from Philips. Although it didn’t get much attention from the market compared from its other AirPlay speakers like the Philips Fidelio SoundSphere and Philips Fidelio SoundAvia, we think that the Philips Fidelio SoundRing has that little bit of “magic” to it. It has some features that stands out, one of which is the unique design.
Philips Fidelio SoundRing – Performance
So how does the Philips Fidelio SoundRing performs?
We tested this AirPlay speaker in different aspects of its performance. Overall, we found the Philips Fidelio SoundRing to be satisfying.
In terms of delivery, this AirPlay speaker produces a decent 360-degree sound. Remember though that you need to adjust the volume to moderate levels only in order to get the best sound you’d like to hear from it. To proceed, we tried the Philips Fidelio SoundRing with simple tracks and we found the sound clear and crisp. It also has some deep bass. But if you’re someone who expects a powerful bass from speakers, then don’t expect too much from the Philips Fidelio SoundRing because at some point, its bass gets distorted like it is about to explode.
In terms of performance longevity, the Philips Fidelio SoundRing can be used via an AC power or via its battery. If you decide to use its rechargeable battery, you need to know that it can only be used like for up to 3 hours only. Yes, that battery life is too short when we speaker of speakers. But still you can use its AC power, plug it, then use it while watching movies or listening music from your iPad.
Philips Fidelio SoundRing – Design
What can we tell when it comes to the Philips Fidelio SoundRing’s design?
Well, we can say that it looks really unique and elegant, especially if compared from other AirPlay speakers being offered to us.
It looks like a giant donut, has black accents and placed on a circular base to stand. The Philips Fidelio SoungRing measures 8.3 x 7.6 x 4.5 inches and weighs at 5 pounds, thus really portable in its sense. Indeed it is portable but it is very ideal to use it indoors because you need to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
The enclosure of this AirPlay speaker is available in black and made from cloth. It primarily encloses its four 1.5 inch drivers. Along the top part of the speaker can be found a metallic band that contains the Power button, Play/Pause buttons, the Philips Logo, and the Volume buttons. While in its back, the 3.5mm aux input, USB port, and Wi-Fi Setup button can be found. A LED light can also be found in the speaker to function as connection indicator.
Philips Fidelio SoundRing – Connectivity
AirPlay is the connection featured in the Philips Fidelio SoundRing. Testing this connectivity feature has been somewhat hassle for us. When we got our devices connected with it, we also experienced some dropouts, but it was not frequent.
