There are just a huge number of tiny, compact, ultra-portable wireless speakers out there but only few are getting a lot of attention from audiophiles like us.

We have been impressed with the some portable speakers that we previously reviewed, like the AYL Portable Speaker, iHome IM60GT Portable Speaker, Roker S-Cannon Wireless Portable Speaker, and many more. And another tiny portable speaker that got our attention lately is from a line of speakers from the famous Japanese company, Sony.

So if you’re here looking for a tiny-sized, compact, and ultra-portable speaker, then you can check out the Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker.

So what’s with this tiny portable wireless speaker? The Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker features a tiny yet elegant and polished design along with some extra functions that other portable wireless speakers do not sport yet: a speakerphone capability and the “tap-to-pair” NFC technology that current smartphones and other devices are now supporting.

Sony SRSBTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker – Performance

We tested the Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker with our favorite tracks saved in our smartphones and we found its performance to be good. The sound coming out from this Sony speaker was rich and clear. Aside from that, we found that the sound it produces is actually a 360-degree sound output.

Although we were somewhat impressed with the Sony SRS-BTV5’s rich and clear sound, the sound was not that very loud at all. The bass output was not that strong as well. When it comes to its overall sound performance, this portable wireless speaker was fine, but not as great as other portable wireless speakers we previously reviewed though.

When it comes to its battery, the Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Speaker comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that enables it to perform for up to 5 hours of playtime. For a tiny portable wireless speaker, the 5-hour battery life is already on point. To recharge this portable wireless speaker, you can use a standard micro-USB that comes in the box.

Sony SRSBTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker – Design

Moving on from the Sony SRS-BTV5’s sound performance, we absolutely like how cool this one is designed. It looks really chic, elegant, and eye-catching.

The Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker is a tiny portable wireless speaker that measures a dimension of 2.6 x 2.6 x 2.2 inches and weighs only 4.8 ounces. This is one feature we really appreciate with this Sony speaker.

It is very tiny, portable, and lightweight that makes it easy and convenient to bring around anywhere. It also comes with a pouch, adding more value to your needs for portability. The Sony SRS-BTV5 comes in three colors: Black, White, and Pink.

This portable wireless speaker forms like a softball. On top of it is where the speaker driver is found in addition to a curved shield that serves as “sound distributor”, enabling it to deliver 360-degree sound, as well as a protective cover for the driver in case an object might fall or drop on it.

On its side is where the Sony logo and the built-in microphone (for speakerphone use), call answer/end button, volume up/down buttons, and ports for the Audio In/3.5mm audio input and micro-USB for charging are placed. While on its bottom is where the sliding switch is found to control the power and the pairing modes (NFC/Bluetooth).

Sony SRSBTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker – Connectivity

The Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker can be connected with your devices via Bluetooth, NFC, and 3.5mm audio input.

Testing its connectivity capability was not a hassle work to do at all. We found pairing our smartphones to this portable wireless speaker easy and fast. We first tested the Bluetooth connection of this Sony speaker and the pairing was quick.

When it comes to its wireless range, Sony claims it to have up to 10 meters and we tested this range if it really works and it is. If you prefer wired connection, you can still use this Sony speaker through a 3.5mm audio jack or cable. You only need to provide for yourself though because it does not come one with it.

We also love another feature that the Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable Wireless Speaker have, which is the NFC “tap-to-pair” capability. This technology does not come yet with most portable wireless speakers in the market. So having the NFC support with this one is really good. Although, take note that for you to use this feature, you need to have a device or smartphone that supports it also but that’s not a problem anymore because most devices nowadays has NFC support included in it.

Lastly, the Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker doubles as a speakerphone! Although it is a tiny portable speaker, Sony did not forget to include this features, which for us, many audiophiles would really want their portable speakers to have. When tested, we found that the speakerphone quality was not bad at all. It delivers decently especially if you only use it as a speakerphone in your office or your room.

If you’re into tiny portable wireless speaker, then you can consider the Sony SRS-BTV5 Portable NFC Bluetooth Speaker. It also has an affordable price of $34.95 only!
