As audiophiles, we witness a lot of portable speakers offered in the market nowadays. Some portable speakers are designed to have a large body enclosure while some are small and easy to carry around.

Some portable speakers have premium prices while some are very affordable. Some portable speakers have great sound but some are not.

As we see many portable wireless speakers to have different large designs, high price range, and not-that-great sound quality, that is when we also get to appreciate the small and portable ones, low priced, and packed with impressive sound quality.

Yes, you’ve read that right. Some portable wireless speakers indeed have been made with small and compact designs and lower prices just to catch up on top of the competition but what’s more surprising is that if what portable wireless speaker has been created with small size and lower price, it is one that has got the more decent sound quality.

Sony SRSX2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker – Performance

So what can we say about the performance of the Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker?

Once we got it out from the box, we immediately tested this small portable speaker. Testing the Sony SRS-X2 with Justin Bieber’s new album was very enjoyable and at the same time, surprising for us. Just like Sony’s other versions of the SRS series such as the Sony SRS-X3 and Sony SRS-X11, we found its sound quality to be pretty decent.

If compared with other mini portable speakers out there like the Bose SoundLink Mini or the Jawbone Mini Jambox, you would actually favour the Sony SRS-X2 because the sound it delivers is absolutely warmer and more balanced. The treble and the midrange are very clear and crisp while the volume can be powerful as any other portable speakers that naturally pump out big sound.

Although do not overuse the sound at its maximum volume level because, no doubt, distortions will be the problem. Aside from clean midrange and treble, the Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker also has powerful bass output that can jive with the requirements of bass-intensive tracks.

Meanwhile, the Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker has a rechargeable battery that can last for up to 5 hours of playtime. For some this battery life would already be perfect for their day but for us, we think that 5 hours is not enough.

Sony SRSX2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker – Design

The Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker measures 6.8 x 2.3 x 2.3 inches and weighs at 17 ounces only. This makes the Sony speaker to be very compact, portable, and lightweight, thus making it very easy to carry around.

When you would observe its design for quite some time, you will absolutely compare it with the Beats Pill or the Jawbone Mini Jambox.

On top of the speaker is where the round buttons and the Sony logo are found. The buttons represent the Power, Volume Up/Down, Sound, Bluetooth Pairing, and the Call Answer/End. On its side is where the metal speaker grille is found which covers the speaker drivers. On its other side is where the ports for the micro-USB charging, Audio input, and reset function are placed. We love how the rubber feel to its enclosure is designed in the speaker because it makes the whole part of the Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker very easy to grip or handle.

The Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker is available in three color: Black, White, and Red.

Sony SRSX2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker – Connectivity

Just like other Sony SRS series portable speakers, the Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker is also available in three connectivity options. You can either connect or pair it via Bluetooth, NFC easy “tap-to-pair”, or simply use the Audio input via a 3.5mm cable for wired connections.

Testing each connectivity options were a very easy task at all. We didn’t find any problems or dind’t encountered any errors, so far, while pairing our smartphones via Bluetooth and NFC. Also, if you prefer using a wired connection for your MP3 Player, you can choose the wired connection option by using a 3.5mm audio cable. Although know that you need to provide your own 3.5mm cable because it is not included in the box.

Lastly, Sony SRS-X2 Ultra-Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker also sports a built-in microphone for wireless and hands-free calls. You can now amplify your phone calls via the Sony SRS-X2 with decent sound quality.
